The Ministry of Power and Energy has decided to inform President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the prevailing electricity crisis of the national grid, reports said.
A meeting was conducted in the Power and Energy Ministry under the patronage of subject Minister Mahinda Amaraweera pertaining to the matter today (10). State Minister of Electricity Mahindananda Aluthgamage, ministerial secretary Wasantha Perera and other officials in the CEB took participation in the meeting.
The previous government had failed to add new capacity by even a unit to the national grid for the last five years since 2014, the minister said, pointing out that new projects will be implemented to generate electricity without any shortage.
Attention has already been paid to introduce economically sound electricity generation methods that can be adopted, he said.
The minister further emphasized that steps would be followed to brief the President by Thursday (12) on the matter and the long-term solutions to the prevailing shortcomings of power in the national grid. The government's approval on the specially accelerated power projects and their potential benefits would also be expected, he added.
