A proposition was tabled to the Matale District United National Party Council meeting concluded a short while ago demanding Mr. Sajith Premadasa to make a public statement regarding the post of Leader of Opposition, in order to avoid public misconceptions spread across the country, reports said.

The proposition requests Mr. Sajith Premadasa to make a public statement whether he is satisfied with the position.

The meeting was gathered at Matale District MP Ranjith Aluvihare's residence, with participation of MPs Ranjith Aluvihare, Wasantha Aluvihare, Priyan Wijeratne and Rohini Kaviratne. All UNP members representing Matale district gathered in the meeting unanimously agreed that the leadership crisis erupted in the party should be solved by Mr. Sajith Premadasa making a public statement.

UNP representatives of Matale inclcuding UNP Matale District Secretary Abeyratne Bandara with one voice stressed that Mr. Sajith Premadasa should make a public statement whether he is satisfied of the position he is given, pointing out that otherwise they would be forced to answer embarrassing questions raised by the grassroot people, and ultimately may have to refrain from politics.

The unanimous demand would be forwarded to Mr. Sajith Premadasa immediately as well, they said.

Upon query, MP Wasantha Aluvihare told LNW that the events are true and that Mr. Sajith Premadasa would be informed of this request via writing and over phone. This would be the perfect opportunity to debunk all the misconceptions propagated across the country centering the crisis, he said.
