Today (04) is the third day of the South Asian Games. Sri Lanka's players are scheduled to take part in the events today. Of these, the 200m men's and women's competitions are crucial.
Sri Lanka lost the men's and women's domination of the 100m event at the SAG Games yesterday (03), at both events. Winning the two 200m events is important for Sri Lanka to offset the humiliation of that defeat.
Another South Asian record for Sri Lanka slipped in yesterday, which was the high jump men's record. India's Sarvesh Anil surpassed Manjula Kumara's record of 2.20 meters at the 2004 Games. That was a 2.21m performance.
Meanwhile, several medal hopes have been hospitalized, reports said. Nadeesha Ramanayake, who traveled to Kathmandu to represent the 200, 400 and 400x4m events, has been hospitalized due to fever. In addition, Upul Kumara, who represents the 10,000m event and Vidusha Lakshani, who was to represent the Triple jump event, has been hospitalized.
Host Nepal is currently leading the medal tally with 23 gold medals and India is in second place with 18 gold medals. Sri Lanka is in third place with 6 gold, 16 silver and 28 bronze.
