If the 19th Amendment to Constitution, established with the aim of securing the democracy of the country and making functions of a number of government institutions with high status independent, is revoked the country would reverse, Leader of House Lakshman Kiriella said.

Accounting for a total revocation instead of adjusting the flaws consisted in the amendment is not suitable for the country, he said.

Independent commissions were established in accordance with the law reforms by the 19th Amendment, the minister said, pointing out that such reforms made the whole judiciary, the police and the election affairs independent, suitable for the country irrespective of the government.

When he as the Leader of House presented the 19th Amendment to Parliament, there were forty members of the UNP but it was approved by a majority of the Members of Parliament, Kiriella emphasized.
