Army Commander’s service extended by a year

Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva has been granted a service extension till January 30, 2021. The extension was provided by former President Maithripala Sirisena.

Shavendra Silva has been given the extension of service a few days before the 2019 presidential election.

Mr. Shavendra Silva's term was due to expire on December 31st.

Meanwhile, former Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army Maj. Gen. Sathyapriya Liyanage has also been given a six month extension by the former President Maithripala Sirisena.

Accordingly, he has been given the extension with effect from the 14th.
