The Colombo three-member High Court has rejected granting bail for for Avant Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi having him further remanded with adjourning the case till December 03.
The case was taken up before three-member High Court bench comprising Dhammika Ganepola, Aditya Patabandige and Manjula Thilakaratne today (08).
Pronouncing court order, Justice Aditya Patabandige stated no substantive information produced before the court for granting bail.
President's Counsel Gamini Marapana appearing on behalf of Senadhipathi stated that his client never avoided court sessions pointing out that the other defendants to the case were released on bailed and therefore requested for bail under any condition.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the Attorney General, stated that the three-member bench was not able to reconsider the verdict as the court had already issued a ruling refusing to grant bail to the accused.
Thirteen defendants including chairman of Avant Garde Maritime Service Nissanka Senadhipathi have been indicted leveling 7574 allegations over the vessel M.V. Avant Garde in the Hikkaduwa coast carrying 816 automatic firearms and 200935 ammunition on board without a proper licence or permit during the period between April 7, 2014 and October 6, 2015.
