Justice should be given to the people as well as the environment, said Anura Dissanayake, the Presidential Candidate of the National People's Power (NPP).
He made these sentiments speaking at the NPP's launching of its Environment Policy Statement at Kotawatta Village, Udawalawa.
It is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the environment and maintain a clean environment under environmental justice, according to Mr. Dissanayake.
The Policy Statement for Environment by NPP, "The Environment Policy of Country's Nature's Hope" has been launched and a scientific policy is ready to revive the environment, Mr. Dissanayake said.
However, he added that there were more destruction caused in nature than the destruction caused by the war.
"Providing a clean country, a clean beach and a clean diet to the people and the children of our country are responsibilities the rulers cannot avoid. To protect the environment, we first need a well-arranged land-use plan. These days it is only in the books. And we need a law that protects the environment."
Accordingly, the environment determines the future survival of humans and others, Mr. Dissanayake emphasized.
