Supreme Court denies petition filed by Gotabaya Rajapaksa against Weeraketiya Museum case

The Supreme Court has decided to reject an appeal filed by former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The appeal was filed in regard to the case filed against Gotabaya Rajapaksa before the three-member Special High Court in connection to the D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum and Monument in Weeraketiya.

The petition filed by the former Defence Secretary, confronting that the allegations against him were false, was taken up by five-member Supreme Court Bench comprising Sisira de Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena, Prasanna Jayawardena, Vijith Malalgoda and L.T.B. Dehideniya. The petition was rejected by a majority decision of the Bench. 

The case before the three-member Special High Court accordingly will be retaken up on next 15. 

The case on D.A. Rajapaksa Museum was filed against seven accused including Gotabaya Rajapaksa for allegedly misusing public funds of over Rs. 33 million. The case accordingly will be taken upon a daily basis from 15th onwards.
