Lack of well-experienced senior players and dew against the Pallekeke International Cricket Stadium could have led to the loss of the T20 match against New Zealand, Opener Kusal Mendis said.
He made these comments in addressing the media after the match held in Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Experiences in T20 matches are less and therefore international experiences should be sought, he added.
Although skilled bowlers such as Akila Dhananjaya, Lasith Malinga and Isuru Udana were hoped for the winning of the match, the dew stood against everything, Mendis said.
He added that although the bowlers had initially given good condition, it was a disadvantage due to the dew that had fallen to Pallekele in the middle of the day.
"We tried our best to win the match, but we had to lose because of some mistakes. We can see bowling defects in any match. Even in my own hands. It is common for any country.
Although we lost the match today, we have good experience and preparation for the future. I believe that the batsmen played better in the match," he added.
Even when the bowlers played well, if the rival team commits a mistake, winning would be absolute, Mendis further said.
