If a majority of UNP government MPs make a request to remove the incumbent Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and replace him with someone else, President Maithripala Sirisena will have to consider it, the SLFP says.
SLFP MP Weerakumara Dissanayake said that he could not predict what the President would do at the moment and if the Prime Minister is replaced on a UNP's request, it is an internal matter of the government and is unfair to hand over the responsibility to the President or the SLFP.
"We should add, that it is a problem of the government - their government - if a majority of UNP MPs come forward and ask the President to replace the Prime Minister. We heard talks that they're being problematic as to appoint a new prime minister.
We don't know what kind of decision the President would take. But it's none of our concern. So, it is unfair to point fingers at either us or the President," the MP emphasized.
MP Weerakumara Dissanayake made these comments in addressing a media briefing called by the SLFP yesterday (22).
