Sajith disapproved upon upcoming presidential polls: Analysis

23 August 2019 09:27 am

UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa is currently demonstrating his will to contest the presidential election. Party's Sajith faction say that if the UNP does not get nominations for Sajith Premadasa, he will be nominated for the presidential election by some other party.

The close connection to grassroots is Sajith Premadasa's primary demonstration to justify his qualification to contest for the upcoming polls. However, it has not been demonstrated by any census statistic, but merely by being constantly verbal by him and the MPs around him, and per will of the Sirasa media network.

The highest qualifications for the executive presidency of a country are not the mere wishes of the grassroot-people. This is because it is a much more responsible position than being the chairman of a rural funeral committee. There are many more tasks than walking on the ground floor and opening a commemorative plaque with people's money.

So, let us take a closer look at Sajith Premadasa's political performance.

Sajith Premadasa is a public representative in Parliament. As a professional politician, his occupation headquarters is Parliament. No Minister has the ability to carry out the functions of the Ministry assigned to him alone, and he should contribute to the process of legislation and enactment in Parliament.

Sajith's rank in Parliament

Sajith Premadasa has been ranked 94th out of 224 MPs in the ranking of MPs in Parliament, according to manthri.lk. He is ranked 38th among UNP MPs. Of the 15 topics on which this ranking is based, he addresses only 7 topics in Parliament, the website claimed.

The ranking of the MPs will include a number of factors such as the functioning of Members of Parliament, their participation in debates, questions being asked and their contribution to the passage of legislation.

Accordingly, Sajith, who proclaims he is entitled to the highest position in the country, has made relatively very low contribution to the proceedings of Parliament.

MPs in Sajith Faction

We will have a look into whether Sajith's supporters are active or have actively contributed to governance upon Sajith's absence.

The UNP rebel leader for Sajith in the Working Committee is former Chairman Malik Samarawickrama. The web statistics indicate he is ranked 117th, while being 50th among UNP MPs.

UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim, who had previously conducted secret talks with Gotabaya Rajapaksa, is ranked 57th, while on Party being 25th.

Interestingly, Harin Fernando, who says he will quit politics if Sajith is not nominated and is ready to sacrifice his life for Sajith. is ranked 140th in Parliament, and 62st among UNP MPs.

One of the front-row activists for Sajith Faction, Ajith P. Perera, is ranked 24th, while 10th among UNP MPs.

The majority in Sajith Faction, according to statistics claimed by manthri.lk, does not hold valuable contribution to parliamentary proceedings.

Ranil and Ranil Faction

By comparison, UNP Leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is 19th out of 224 MPs of Parliament. He is the 7th among UNP MPs. He has made his contribution in Parliament covering all 15 of the ranking topics, according to the website.

One of Sajith's strongest opponents, Deputy Chairman of UNP, Ravi Karunanayake, is ranked 18th in Parliament, and 06th in UNP.

Secretary General of UNP, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, is ranked 30th among 224, and 12th among UNP MPs.

Sajith disqualified

Hence, as a professional politician and as a stakeholder of a government, Sajith Premadasa is a person with less attention to governance, parliamentary affairs, less participation and less experience.

It also demonstrates that Sajith Premadasa is an unskilled politician who has no ability to act on the issues of the national level but to operate in a very limited range, pursuing only profitable popularity without the knowledge, understanding or least interest.

Activists for Sajith Faction prove the worst.

Sajith's familiar claims of Gam Udawa housing loans in response are but merely out of funds collected by many state parties, foreign debts and public's money, not out of vast treasures. Upon collecting a treasury, a government shall be maintained, and Sajith does not have the least knowledge, nor tendency, to build one.
