British Foreign Office on Tuesday (20) said it was seeking information about reports claiming the arrest of a Hong Kong staff member currently detained in mainland China, according to foreign reports.

Issuing a statement, a Foreign Commonwealth Office spokesperson in Beijing said, "We are concerned by reports that a member of our team has been detained while returning to Hong Kong from Shenzhen. We are providing support to their family and seeking further information from authorities in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong."

The missing UK Consulate employee, Simon Cheng, did not report back for duty on August 09 after visiting Shenzhen the previous day, according to a report by HK01, citing an interview with his girlfriend.
