Alice Wells, US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, met Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana on Monday (12), according to Department of Government Information.
Wells on Sunday (11) visited the St. Anthony’s Church in Kochchikade, which was bombed by Islam extremists on Easter Sunday (21), and laid a wreath in remembrance of the victims.
The Acting Assistant Secretary assures that the US would continue to work with Sri Lanka and partners around the world to combat terrorism.
Upon envoy, Wells is also expected to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, top government officials, the business community and civil movements, reports said.
However, the President's Office informed there was no scheduled meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and the Acting Assistant Secretary Wells.
Wells' regional tour was set for visiting Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka, from August 6 to 16.
