Pakistani High Commissioner meets Opposition Leader, briefs on Jammu and Kashmir conflict

Major General (R) Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat, High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka, had briefed Sri Lanka on the conflict of Jammu and Kashmir. 

The High Commissioner on Tuesday (12) met with Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and made a brief on the situation of the land.

Hashmat said that the arbitrary yet unilateral actions taken by Indian parliament to scrap the special status of Jammu and Kashmir from political map by revoking the Article 370 were gross violation of international law. 

He pointed out to the opposition leader that Pakistan is at a firm stand opposing any move that would seek to alter the demographic structure of Jammu and Kashmir, for the land is an internationally recognized disputed territory politically argued. 

Upon illegal measures taken by the Modi-led government of India, the probability to escalate the situation with grave implications of peace and security in the portion is high, he emphasized. 
 
Keying to solve the dispute, he said the ultimate resolution is to be determined through a plebiscite undertaken by the UN, in accordance with numerous resolutions of the Security Council. 

The Pakistani High Commissioner also invites Sri Lanka, as being member of SAARC countries, to promote peace and harmony in South Asia amidst the tempered climate.
