Alliance could divert candidacy despite Pohottu candidate: SLFP

Despite Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), aka Pohottuwa, pronounced Gotabaya Rajapaksa as their presidential candidate, a broad alliance upon upcoming poll may divert the candidacy into a different person, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Duminda Dissanayake says.

The SLFP has pronounced their presidential candidate, so does the Pohottuwa, as per their right, he said.

Therefore, Dissanayake emphasized that the Pohottuwa's decision to pronounce their presidential candidate would not disrupt future alliance between the two.

However, since only one candidate from both the SLFP and the Pohottu party can be nominated for presidency, the title may divert into another person upon allying with all those who oppose the United National Party (UNP), he added.

Duminda Dissanayake made these comments in elaborating the SLFP's stance upon SLPP nominating a presidential candidate.
