Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara arrived at the Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The Attorney General’s Department has filed a case against them over allegedly failing to prevent or minimize the Easter Sunday attacks.
On 2 July, the former Defense Secretary and the IGP were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The Attorney General’s Department had charged them with murder in accordance with Section 296 of the Penal Code.
However, on 9 July, Fort Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne released them on bail stating that sufficient evidence has not been presented to charge them with murder.
