MP S.M. Marikkar says that Muslim MPs have agreed to amend certain sections of the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act (MMDA).
He made this statement at a press briefing held yesterday (16).
According to MP Marikkar, the MPs have agreed to make the legal age of marriage 18 years, and require the signatures of both husband and wife when getting married.
Amendments will also be introduced to register marriages before a lawyer, he added.
