Drone technology shall be handy in emergency transportation of medicine and blood, a team of specialist doctors inform the Ministry of Health.
They point out emergencies such as blood transfusion require immediate delivery, and drone technology can be used to transport them to any part of the country without delay.
It is obvious that many practical inconveniences occur during transportation of medicine into relevant healthcare facilities, such as wastage of time when they are being transported by terrain vehicles on roads. Currently, this is the only system authorities utilize to transport medicine in cases of emergencies.
Cardiologist Gotabaya Ranasinghe of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), speaking of the importance of providing medicine in emergency situations in time, emphasizes time has become a decisive factor in saving lives, and therefore, such technology can be used for immediate transportation of medicine and blood without hindrance.
He pointed out that a drone could transport about two kilograms of materials at a speed of 100 km per hour.
