President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during his visit to observe a farm that is successfully being maintained by organic farming in Udubeddewa, Bunnehapola today (23) said that his role as the President would be useless, had he been appointed to just predict the prices of lentils and rice.
Accordingly, the President pointed out that his role is more than just predicting the prices of food.
"Even our previous governments had tried to achieve this. It is a difficult task. For 30 years, my generation has witnessed how tradition farming is carried out. But unfortunately, no leader has taken this decision. I believe that I was appointed not to just predict the prices of lentils and rice. If that was the case, there is no point. But a change should be made, especially in the field of agriculture. I provided free fertiliser since the day I arrived. Free fertiliser was given to improve the living standards of the farmer. We increased the guaranteed price of paddy," he said.
