Delivery of AstraZeneca maybe delayed due to Olympics. But don’t panic: Minister Channa

 As of now, the delivery of over 1.4 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 in Sri Lanka may be delayed by a few days due to the ongoing Olympics in Japan, revealed State Minister Channa Jayasumana, speaking to reporters yesterday (25).

Due to the event, air flights could be delayed, he added.

"1,470,000 doses of AstraZeneca is ready for delivery from the Japanese Government as a donation. They were planned to be delivered today or tomorrow. But due to the Olympics, there has been a delay of transport of goods in the flights. Therefore, a delay of a few days may occur. Therefore, we state with responsibility not to panic, for we will be working in providing you the second dose for sure," he said.

The administration of AstraZeneca vaccine was first initiated in Sri Lanka about five months ago. As of now, about five hundres thousand citizens are waiting to be jabbed with the second dose.
