Covid cases identified in the present are among those who were infected with the virus before the imposition of travel restrictions, State Minister of Covid Control specialist Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle said, responding to reporters yesterday (09).
The Minister added that a decline of cases could be evident after about a week.
"Here's how. The prevalence of Covid - although the lockdown was imposed now - is found before the lockdown period. Because the incubation period is from 02 to 14 days. Then the disease can spread for 14 days. So, if germs are contracted before the lockdown, it can spread for up to 14 days. So, the ones infected then are the ones we still see. Because the country has been closed for two weeks now. So next week ... we'll look at the data in about another week," she noted.
