The statistics publicised by the Health Ministry do not reveal a significant number of Covid-19 deaths reported in the grassroot-level, stated Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA), speaking to media yesterday (21).
"Yesterday, the Public Health Inspectors' Association made it very clear and accurate that a significant number of Covid-19 deaths found in the grassroot-level are not publicised as statistics. In this backdrop, the health workers have severely been inconvenienced," Union Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.
He went on: "Now, the best example - in the event that an occasional death occurred in a village is not included in the data chart published by the Epidemiology Unit and the Health Ministry, the relatives begin to suspect whether this was a Covid-death. Had this death been not explained properly, it could create a serious conflict in the society and among the health workers."
