The government heads have reportedly paid their attention on re-establishing a number os sernior ministerial posts which were not serving a proper function as they were during the regime of Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa from 2010 to 2015.

This has led to holding discussions regarding the appointment of several senior politicians as senior ministers, whose roles serve no specified duty, whereas ministers Vasudewa Nanayakkara and Gamini Lokuge are at risk, according to internal political sources.

The limit imposed on the number of ministers by the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was subject to removal through the 20th Amendment, however unsuccessful, given that a number of figures within the Ruling Party expressed strong opposition to the attempt.

The above move is being made accordingly, given an alternative approach, to curb the problematic situation arisen in allocating posts within the government, sources added.
