Former President Maithripala Sirisena's presidency of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has been violated by the party's constitution, and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike has said that he is trying to distance true party members who love the party from the party.

Accordingly, she called for an immediate election of the SLFP to allow a new group that truly loves the party and its members to move the party forward.

Chandrika Bandaranaike has made this statement in response to a recent statement made by former President Maithripala Sirisena to The Hindu paper of India.

Maithripala Sirisena had told the newspaper that Chandrika Bandaranaike was no longer in the party.

Rejecting this, she said that she would continue to officially represent the party in the Executive Council and the Central Committee and would also serve as a patron of the party, citing the party constitution in the letter.
