The 20th Amendment to Constitution was purposely drafted on the basis of depreciating Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as a powerless person in the means of a conspiracy, alleged SJB MP S.M. Marikkar, adding that this was the reason behind the new constitutional adaptation not having a draughtsman.
The SJB MP made this allegation speaking to media in Colombo yesterday (13).
In the MP's emphasis, Marikkar pointed out that neither in the Ruling Party steps forward to take the responsiblity of drafting the 20th Amendment to Constitution, whilst the person directly responsible for the department it formulated, Justice Minister Ali Sabry, continues to say he only tabled it to the Cabinet.
Even the Justice Minister does not reveal who drafted the amendment, Marikkar said.
"Now, the fellowship of the Pohottu Party may have begun to understand that this was purposely done targeting Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, in a plot to degrade him from being the Great King (Maha Rajanan) to being a peon. Therefore, we urge Mr. Namal Rajapaksa and the rest of the kin to stay with caution," he added.
What the country needs is a constitution that suits the State and the people, Marikkar went on. "Otherwise it is not meant to strengthen individuals or to degrade them. So, we do not understand what they are trying to accomplish by devaluing Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa."
