A returnee from India has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday (02) evening after being sent home following successful 14-day quarantine period.
The returnee, a coastal guard, is a resident of Jinthupitiya, Colombo 13.
He returned to the island on June 08 and was referred to the 14-day quarantine procedure. Upon being tested negative through PCR, he was sent home, and has spent another 14-day period of home quarantine since June 26.
Meanwhile, one of his quarantine camp mates tested positive for the virus the day before yesterday. Upon revelation, he was again referred to a PCR test, through which he was diagnosed to have contracted the virus.
Accordingly, 143 residents from 29 families in Jinthupitiya, Colombo 13 have been referred to the quarantine procedure, health authorities said.
Nevertheless, this is not considered as a community spread, DGHS Dr. Anil Jasinghe said, adding that these cases were reported within the quarantine framework.
