The government has made no decision to hold the Rs. 5000 concession distributed to people whose incomes were collapsed in the wake of Coronavirus for the month June, chairman of Presidential Task Force for Economic Revival Basil Rajapaksa stressed.
Mr. Rajapaksa who attended to a meeting held in Colombo yesterday (22) told the reporters, "We haven't made any decision regarding the matter." Upon query whether the allowance will not be further distributed, he said, "Let's see shall we? In the end, this is an Election Season isn't it?"
However, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunwardena addressing the press conference held in announcing Cabinet Decisions on Thursday (21) had stressed that the board of Cabinet has decided not to distribute the Rs. 5000 concession based on a letter forwarded to the President's Secretary by the Election Commission.
In response, chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya had explained that the Election Commission imposed no such restriction on the concession, but reiterated that the government should reconsider upon distribution of this relief to people whose incomesare supposedly being restored if the country is being returned to normalcy, with advising not to involve regional politicians in to the affair in order to prevent the matter from being politicized.
