President’s Secretary responds to Election Commission on the warning of Constitutional Crisis

President's Secretary PB Jayasundara has written to Election Commission in response to its warning of future occurrence of a constitutional crisis in the inability to hold the General Election till the end of May due to COVID-19 pandemic and the advice to consult the Supreme Court in this regard. 

In accordance with the instructions received to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, a statement cannot be made at this moment whether the election can be held on or before May 28, the letter stressed.

As the Election Commission declared postponement of election up to 14 days from April 30th, the probability to hold the election on the 15th day exists, it added, thereby pointing out that the Election Commission has the responsibility to declare a new date for the conduction.
