Leader of House Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said he highly respects leader of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) former opposition leader R. Sampanthan and the government will never take away any facility he enjoys.

The minister made this observation in response to Sampanthan as his comments on the official residence and the vehicle distributed by the previous government took a storm in the political arena.

Sampanthan issuing a statement said he was provided an official residence and a vehicle two years after being sworn in as the leader of opposition, and although the president had requested to rent a house until then he did not spend public funds on the matter. Sampanthan also said he handed over the official vehicle to former opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa on January 01, 2019, thereby requesting all parties not to make unpleasant commentary on it.

In response Leader of House Dinesh Gunawardena said the government highly respects Mr. Sampanthan and no facility he enjoys would be taken away. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa as the then president provided protection to all parliamentarians of the North including Sampanthan, he added, stressing that none of the decisions are being politically biased.

The leader of TNA is highly respected, Gunawardena went on, adding that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has invited them all to work together in solving problems of the country.

It was highly noteworthy that some of the racist ministers and members of the governing party attempted propagation of false information on Sampanthan being granted an official residence and a vehicle. Accordingly, Leader of House Minister Dinesh Gunawardena's response has slashed their bitter tongues in half.
