Since the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has failed to contribute its fullest potential to secure the victory of Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, presidential candidate of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), an argument has surfaced that the SLPP is not entitled to implement the agreements reached with them, reports said.
The majority opinion of the SLPP is that even if Gotabaya Rajapaksa wins, the SLFP MPs should not be given the promised ministerial portfolios, since Chandrika Bandaranaike with a large number of SLFP organizers has already joined the United National Party (UNP) for the victory of Sajith Premadasa.
They have also argued that the SLFP MPs shall not be contesting for a general election as they have been rejected by the SLPP public platforms. They have stressed that they have no intention of giving 30% of the nominations to the SLFP.
Given the situation, even though Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa won the presidential election, MP Dayasiri Jayasekera and other SLFP MPs may not get the positions they were hoping for, sources further disclosed.
However, the Pohottu Party has not yet made a final decision regarding the situation, according to sources.
