Presidential hopeful UNP's Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa has openly threatened that he will be leaving the party unless he is nominated, upon which there is a huge probability of happening so, sources said.
The SLFP, led by President Sirisena, is preparing to take him to the presidential race if he resigns from the UNP, and he will contest from the 'Banana Pile' symbol of the United National Freedom Front of Uva Province Governor Maithri Gunaratne, sources further said.
Strengthening the claims, Central Province Governor Ranjith Keerthi Thennakoon, who is a close associate of the President and a former political analyst of Sirasa Media Network, in his Facebook account has made a post saying, "Swan in 2010 and 2015, the 2019 presidential election is set for a special nomination?"
Meanwhile, if Sajith leaves the party, the top level members of the UNP taken his decision as a blessing are ready to carry out the campaign, according to sources.
Attention to this was also drawn at the 50th birthday party of Naveen Dissanayake on Friday (20). Sources claimed that if Sajith Premadasa leaves the UNP, Naveen Dissanayake and Sagala Ratnayake are more likely to be appointed as the party's deputy leaders.
