A committee has been appointed with the participation of both Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa in preparation of a strategic plan to win the United National Party (UNP) in the upcoming Presidential Polls and the report is due to be released this weekend, sources said.
Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Malik Samarawickrama, Kabir Hashim and Prime Minister's Advisor Dinesh Weerakkody have been included in the committee, sources further said.
However, rebel leader of Sajith Faction Malik Samarawickarama has objected for including Dinesh Weerakkody saying he is not a UNP member.
In response, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has made a rather interesting comment.
"Watch your tongue when speaking of things you don't know Malik. Dinesh is way too senior than you or Kabir in the party. Dinesh joined the UNP in 1989."
"He has been a member of the party executive committee for more than 15 years. He was the one who formed the Professionals Association on behalf of the party.
He's been doing all this behind the scenes. The difference between him and you is that you give voice cuts all over media and outlets. Dinesh doesn't. But the work that is being done by him on behalf of the party is priceless.
Besides, if you don't remember, we appointed Dinesh as the Treasurer of the party in 2014. But he didn't take that position. We waited six months. These are things that people tend to forget easily, even stuff that had happened in recent times.
So, think before you display your ignorance," Prime Minister has said to Samarawickrama, according to sources.
