Mahinda Rajapaksa is still one of the most popular politicians in the country. But he has one problem. He cannot contest for Presidency. So he needs to put someone who can win. He has now decided to put his younger brother Gotabaya Rajapakse. A military deserter who ran away when he was being Investigated for excessive force as commanding officer in the Mathale District during the 1987- 89 JVP insurgency.

The 1987–89 JVP insurrection was the second unsuccessful armed revolt conducted by the JVP. Gota Rajapaksa returned back when his brother was appointed presidential Candidate in 2005. From 2006 onwards he unleashed terror and frightened everyone to stay in control. Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka who challenged them was imprisoned. The war hero was dragged and remanded in broad daylight.

Gotabaya who has several cases filed against him for murder, corruption and abuse of power is now set to become the SLPP candidate. His supporters say they will secure it by any means. Mahinda can only be sure his brother will put him and his sons in their place, in prison if they try to be funny with him. Gota’s friends-say he will not tolerate any of the Rajapakse children, if elected.

They will have to get to a side and allow him to rule or face consequences. They say he will surely not obey his elder brother Mahinda if he wins.A senior SLFP Minister told the writer that Mahinda should think twice before he appoints his brother as the candidate, because of his Hitler tendencies.
