Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Professor Channa Jayasumana, who had triggered the propaganda against Kurunegala Hospital medical officer Dr. Sahabdeen Safi to have allegedly practiced sterilization procedures on 4000 Sinhala Buddhist mothers, has done so based on a personal grudge with the said doctor, reports say.
The wife of Dr. Safi is also a medical officer specialized on kidney diseases.
According to sources, Dr. Safi's wife and Professor Channa Jayasumana had a heated argument in an earlier conversation over kidney diseases.
Sources further claim that the situation was tackled by Dr. Safi, following which the professor had maintained a grudge with him onwards.
It was Professor Channa Jayasumana who first posted on social media implying that the factless, unscientific and unspecific news published by 'Divayina' newspaper - claiming that a medical officer connected to the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) had allegedly practiced sterilization procedures on Sinhala Buddhist mothers – actually talked about Dr. Safi.
It is now revealed that there are numerous business and political motives, revenge and personal conflicts behind this sterilization drama.
