According to Parliamentarian Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thera, a confession should be obtained from Dr. Sahabdin Safi, despite failure to prove allegations accounting to sterilization procedures.
The thera has made these comments with several of his close associates at the Sadaham Sevana monastery, emphasizing that it can only be done by himself.
According to Rathana Thera, none of the allegations against the said medical officer can be proven, neither can the DIG, the Divayina newspaper, nor the director of the Kurunegala Hospital.
"They called me, and said they're finished. They said they won't be able to walk in the streets anymore, and only I can solve this problem.
Now, there's only one thing that can be done. And that is to obtain a confession from this man. He should be brainwashed. I can do that. He should be threatened that he won't be able to get away with this; not in this lifetime. Besides, there are inmates who were arrested during the war time but haven’t been tried so far. He should be convinced that the same would happen to him.
Besides, he won't be able to stay in this country afterwards. He should be convinced that god knows what would happen to him if he stays. He should be frightened. After that, we can promise we can set him on relief if he's willing to make a confession.
It is up to him to decide whether he stays loyal to the truth and spends the rest of his life in prison, or confesses before his crimes and gets released.
It doesn’t matter who says he didn’t do this, if he himself says he did it. That way both of us can benefit. Later, we can make arrangements to send him to another country with his family--if it ever comes to that.
But, nobody's allowed to visit him. That's the problem. We have to get the President's back up for that," Rathana Thera has reportedly said with his associates.
