Reportedly, President Maithripala Sirisena has responded positively to the suggestion to appoint a Catholic person as a provincial governor made by the Catholic Church.
Therefore, in keeping with the reports, the Eastern Provincial Governor's position currently vacant is planned to be appointed to former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Qatar, Businessman A.S.P. Liyanage.
According to sources, Mr. Liyanage was the man behind the curtains who pulled the strings in having the Catholic Church to request to appoint a Catholic into a provincial governor's position and made propaganda to collect mandate from the public for this matter.
The same A.S.P. Liyanage made full page newspaper articles saying President Sirisena should be awarded with the Nobel Peace Price, and bellboyed the Rajapaksa sons at the airport.
Therefore, may we come to assumption that appointing him as the Governor for Eastern Province would build reconciliation between the Rajapaksa family and President Sirisena, despite reconciliation between nations.
