Palali Airport to be upgraded to international level

A project to upgrade the Palali Airport to international level commenced recently under the patronage of Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Arjuna Ranatunga.
According to the Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry, the objective of this project is to launch regional flights to India by the first week of August. Accordingly, direct flights will be launched to four Indian destinations, namely Mumbai, Hyderabad, Cochin and Bangalore.
The total value of the project is Rs 2,250 million. The government of Sri Lanka has invested Rs 1,950 million, while the government of India has granted Rs 300 million for the project. The total project will be implemented under three stages.
