The funeral of Premapala Hewabatage, one of the leaders of the first JVP insurrection, took place on 8th June at the Ingiriya Public Cemetery.
Premapala Hewabatage, as one of the founding members of the JVP, led the first insurrection in 1971. As a result, he was named the 38th defendant in the 1971 court case.
Later, due to ideological differences, he left the JVP. He also served as the leader of the Janatha Sangamaya.
He was a political activist who didn’t give up the hope for a better society and fought till the end of his life.
A large number of people including political activists and artists attended his funeral.
