‘The New Wings’ had organized a protest in front of the Fort Railway Station under the slogan ‘No more executive presidency.’
The protest was held yesterday (8th January) on the fourth anniversary of Maithripala Sirsena’s presidency.
Participants signed on a banner demanding that the executive presidency be abolished within 2019.
Executive presidency was introduced 41 years ago. It has become a burden to the entire country but we have failed to abolish it, protestors emphasized.
They added that they do not wish to request another president to abolish the executive presidency and it must be abolished by the end of this year.
